Professional Dancers at Momentum

Momentum has been a showcase for Professional dancers in the DMV since its founding in 1986. Our Company has performed throughout the Washington DC area and toured to New York City. In the 1980's and 1990's, Momentum premiered groundbreaking work dealing with cutting edge social issues like homelessness and gentrification (TripTik: A Biased Guide to Washington), the challenging relationships between Blacks and Jews (Collard Greens and Gefilte Fish) and women and body image (THIN).
Our focused shifted in the 21st century to producing large scale productions, starting with our Jazz Hip Hop Nutcracker(c) (2000-2019), then ALICE: Why We All Need A Wonderland (2015-present) and currently the NutcracKer's Guide to Getting UnPlugged (2021-present) We are proud of "Playing Through: Jazz Dance past, present and future (Intersections 2025), a collaboration with Margot Lieser.
Through all our productions, we strive to present high quality jazz, hip hop, contemporary and theater dance, often combined with scripted material that addresses the personal, social and global issues we face. We believe immersing ourselves in the arts brings us together. Dancers: join us!
